The Horton Township Volunteer Fire Department (HTVFD) was incorporated in 1965 to provide fire and rescue services throughout the community.
The department serves more than 1,300 residents in a 57 square-mile area between Crenshaw and Ridgway Township, averaging 200 emergency calls per year. Services range from structure and brush fires, to motor vehicle accidents, to emergency medical responses.
HTVFD is the first responding emergency medical service for Horton Township. The department’s Quick Response Emergency Service (QRS) is manned by trained EMTs and EMRs, who provide the crucial and time-sensitive first stage of medical care.
For its first 52 years, HTVFD made its home in the Brandy Camp section of the township. In 2017, the department erected a new building near the intersection of route 153 and 219 to be more central to the population of the community.
Today, the department boasts more than 30 members. Active personnel participate in hundreds of hours of annual training and assist neighboring communities in mutual aid responses.
